CHEERLEADING CLINIC

July 7-11 - $25 Kids, ages 4-12, can learn the fundamentals of cheerleading at Oaklawn Recreation Center. A demonstration will be conducted for family and friends at the end of the session. Course #35622


PARK AND RECREATION OFFERS FREE FOOTBALL INSTRUCTIONAL CLINICS FOR YOUNGSTERS AGES 7-11

Youngsters, ages 7-11, who want to learn about playing football are invited to any one of three FREE Youth Instructional Football Clinics in July. Clinics focus on learning and improving fundamental skills. Clinics are non- contact and cover passing and receiving techniques, reinforced through touch games. Instruction is by Park and Rec staff and volunteer coaches. No uniforms required, just shorts and athletic shoes. Clinics held Saturdays, 9am- 1pm at:

Special Needs Programming

Hug a Pug

Join Yoshi, a pug owned by Kris Batchelor, and her family, and Shady, a Westie Highland Terrier, owned by Sandy Riddle. Yoshi and Shady are registered and trained by the Delta Society. The Delta Society is an international, non- profit organization that unites people with disabilities with professionally trained animals to help improve their health. This group activity will include indoor and outdoor experiences on a playground.
Dates: Saturdays, May 10 & June 7

Introduction to Water Safety and Exploration

This swimming program is designed for children who have familarity with water, but do not swim independently. The goal is to encourage and foster independence in the water. Parent involvement is required in the pool.

Introduction to Yoga Trial Class

Yoga increases body awareness, and self- confidence through breath, movement and stillness. Use this time to learn calming techniques for both you and your child to take home and practice, leaving with a renewed sense of joy.

Music/Dance Camp

Music Therapist, Anna- Catherine Fowler, and Dance Instructor, Jenny Griffes will lead and engage campers in singing and dancing activities.

"Learn to Bowl" Camp

IF YOUR CHILD HAD A GREAT SCHOOL YEAR, WHY NOT TAKE HIM OUT TO A CHARLOTTE KNIGHTS BALL GAME?

Park and Recreation Department and Genesis Sports Management invite youngsters, ages 8-12 to come on a FREE trip to a Charlotte Knights Baseball game Monday, July 28. We call it "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" for kids who had a great academic 4th quarter (as defined by their parent or guardian). A parent or guardian may bring a kid's final report card by Albemarle Road Recreation Center, 5027 Ildewild Rd., not later than July 25 to qualify. Kids will travel by van to see the Charlotte Knights take on the Buffalo Bisons at Knights Stadium in Fort Mill. Space is limited, so sign-up soon. Excursion leaves from Albemarle Road Recreation Center at 10am, July 28 and returns after the game. YOGA

YOGA in the Nature Preserve Tuesday 6:15-7:15pm $12 per class

PARK AND RECREATION OUTDOOR POOLS STILL $1 THIS YEAR; FREE SWIMMING LESSONS MONDAYS AND WEDNESDAYS

Mecklenburg Park and Recreation 's outdoor pools are open for summer, with an admission fee of only $1-a- day again this year. Hours are:

Saturdays: 11am- 5pm
Sundays: 1pm-5pm
Weekdays: 12noon-6pm
This schedule applies at Cordelia Park Pool, 2100 North Davidson Street and Double Oaks Pool, 1200 Newland Road. Free swim lessons are available for youngsters on Mondays and Wednesdays, 11am-11:30am and 11:30am -12pm at both pools. The 11am classes give priority to children ages 3-5. The 11:30am classes give priority to youngsters 6-12. Older children allowed if space available. To register call 704 336-7855 at least a week ahead of time. Last year these outdoor pools had 24,000 paid admissions.


55th Annual ACC Tournament At Charlotte Bobcats Arena

The 55th Annual ACC Men's Basketball Tournament will take place at Charlotte Bobcats Arena on March 13 to March 16. The Tournament will feature the men's basketball team from The University of North Carolina, Duke, N.C. State, Wake Forest, Clemson, Miami Virginia Tech, Boston College, Georgia Tech, Maryland, University of Virginia and Florida State.

There has not been a public sale of ACC Tournament tickets since 1966, and all tournaments since then have sold out in advance. The tickets are equally distributed among the 12 member institutions. Ticket sale distribution is handled on a school-by-school basis. For more information on purchasing ACC Tournament tickets, please contact one of the 12 member institutions.

Cornelius-Huntersville Youth Lacrosse Fall Programs
CORNELIUS The Parks and Recreation Departments of Cornelius and Huntersville are proud to announce plans for their upcoming youth lacrosse fall programs. Registration for Fall Beginner's Clinic will start on Monday, August 14th and close on Friday, September 1st. The 2006 Fall League will begin registration on Monday, August 28th and will close on Friday, September 22nd. These programs are open to boys and girls grades Kindergarten through 12th grade with divisions determined by gender and grade. Program registration will be accepted at the Cornelius Town Hall, Huntersville Parks & Recreation office, or on- line at www.corneliuspr.org.

The Beginner's Clinic will be held at Smithville Park i n Cornelius and is geared to participants who are new to the sport or beginner level players. The clinic will be held on Sundays, September 10th through October 1st from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at Smithville Park located in Cornelius. The registration fee is $25.00.

The Fall League will be for any participants who complete the Beginner's Clinic or have prior playing experience. The registration fee is $50.00 for the Instructional Division (kindergarten & 1st grade) and $75.00 for all other divisions. Divisions will be formed for grades K-1st coed, Boys 2nd -4th, Boys 5th-6th, Boys 7th-8th, Boys 9th-12th, Girls 2nd-5th, Girls 6th-8th, and Girls 9th- 12th. Financial assistance is available. The Fall League will consist of games only (no practices) starting October 8th with play taking place on Sunday afternoons at Smithville Park and Huntersville Athletic Park. All participants will receive a jersey and a trophy at the end of the season. Addi tional equipment will be required. A copy of the participant's birth certificate is required at time of registration.
